Ed Sheeran & Beyoncé Make The "Perfect Duet"
I was on the phone on a work call when the discussion lead to Beyoncé and her marketing team making all of these calculated moves to keep her name out there while making it seem like she is not even trying. So soon I forgot how the topic came up and completely missed the part of the conversation that Ed Sheeran had just announced the single release of "Perfect," lifted from his '÷' album. The single release was a remix and would feature Beyoncé.
The song was released on Thursday at 7pm ET. The first thing I did once I was let out from class was pull up my Spotify and press play on the track. I first listened to the original "Perfect" when '÷' was released back in March. Sidenote, I still cannot stand "Shape Of You." Anyway, when I first heard "Perfect" I heard a hint of the classic "Stand By Me."
After re-listening with a fresh ear of the song just before the Beyoncé remix was released, I thought how obvious of a choice the song was for her. Sonically, "Perfect" sounds like Beyoncé's cover of "Ave Maria" from 'I Am... Sasha Fierce.' Second, "Perfect" was Beyoncé's best bet for a number one radio single. You all are aware that her last number one was "Single Ladies," in 2008.
Personally, I love the remix, or the "Perfect Duet With Beyoncé". Those harmonies take me back to the days of Destiny's Child and I am a sucker for cheesy fairytale-type love songs. The melody is quite pretty and I can only imagine the number of weddings this song will play at.
I am interested to see what Beyoncé has in store for this next era as she collaborates with big names and hits in mainstream music before the kickoff of era number seven.
