Rejoice! Robyn Returns With An Album Announcement and The Title Track
Today is a pretty good day for a Robyn fan like myself. The Swedish singer, songwriter and record producer put the gears in motion for her upcoming eighth studio album titled ‘Honey.’
So a brief history about Robyn. The lady released her debut album, ‘Robyn Is Here,’ back in 1995, 1995 people! I always reference this because this came out prior to the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” and the Spice Girls was my first dive into being a music fanatic. I will always remember watching the music video for “Show Me Love” around that time.
Although Robyn released her sophomore (‘My Truth’) and third albums (‘Don’t Stop The Music’) in 1999 and 2002 they only saw the light of day in Sweden. This had to do with the fact that Robyn refused to change the lyrics about the abortion she had in 1998. It was not until a decade later in 2005, since her debut LP, that her self-titled album titled ‘Robyn’ hit North American airwaves. I remember when it was released and it certainly felt like forever since I heard the Swedish-born’s music.
Jump forward another five years and the Body Talk trilogy was released throughout 2010. The instant classic “Dancing On My Own” solidified Robyn’s place in Pop music once again and years later was introduced to an entirely new audience on HBO’s “Girls". The relationship between “Girls” and Robyn continued when Robyn released an early edit of “Honey” back in 2017
“Honey” left her fans wanting its full release to the point where #ReleaseHoneyDammit became a thing. Fast forward to 2018 and we knew Robyn was making her return when she had a sit-down talk slot at the Red Bull Music Festival. It was not long before she released “Missing U.” The song is a beautiful synth-laced Pop gem but it certainly did not feel like a comeback single.
Today “Honey” is here. It is a song you close your eyes to and let it take you elsewhere; it is atmospheric and euphoric. I really like it but to be honest I’m hoping for better from the eight tracks, well seven since we already heard “Missing U.” Speaking of, I wish her eight years since her last big release brought more songs with it. You can take a look at her tracklisting below:
1. Missing U
2. Human Being feat. Zhala
3. Because It’s In The Music
4. Baby Forgive Me
5. Send To Robin Immediately
6. Honey
7. Between The Lines
8. Beach 2K20
9. Ever Again
