Soca Always In Season...
So February came and went and so did Carnival, in Trinidad. No, I did not have the luxury to attend but around that time of year the genre of Soca music is hot and heavy; DJ Private Ryan and his amazing mixes are basically a tradition. For me, that tradition lasts through out the year because there is a never a bad time to listen to the melody and rhythm of these island songs.
Take a look and listen below to the Soca songs that had me movin' for the past two months.
Kyron - “Queen of D Pack”
My favorite songs of Soca are the midtempo ones that pinch you to whine ya waist. This one is definitely one of them.
Shal Marshall - “Splinters”
"Bar tender, hurry up get my order" is the anthem. This song has summer written all over it; it is pure fun.
Lyrikal - “Criminal Wine” feat. Patrice Roberts
I have an obsession with Patrice Roberts; I just love the tone and quality of her voice. Lyrikal and Roberts came to create one of the sexiest Soca songs of the year. Patrice also looks pretty damn great in this video.
Salty - “Trouble” feat. Travis World
This is one of those songs where you dead the expression on your face and just tic-toc to your heart's content.
Subance x Uncle Ellis “Back Bend (Remix)”
This is probably the most uptempo of the songs on my list. The bass in this song drives me wild.
Erphaan Alves - “Overdue”
This is my most listened to song of this bunch; the melody of this song is a drug. The number of times I replayed this song is at least 50 times.
Ricardo Drue - “Body Language”
This song right below, this song is my second favorite. Any song that samples Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" usually sits right with my sonic flavor of choice.
Nailah Blackman - “Sokah”
I could not escape this song; one of my closest is obsessed with "Sokah." The more I heard it, the more I liked it.
