Drake Features Big Freedia and Empowers Women in New Single
So it seems a brand new Drake album is in the near future. As "God's Plan" remains at the top of the Billboard charts the Toronto-native releases the song and video for his new single "Nice For What."
First can I say, what is it about these artists sampling the same song, at the same time? Both he and Cardi B ("Be Careful") sample "Ex-Factor" by Lauryn Hill. It must be a simple coincidence.
Now look, I am no stan of Drake but he is a PR's dream:
- He is "non-threatening"
- His light-skinned, MIXED race appearance makes him more palatable to a "mainstream" audience (you want to argue this sad reality, let's go)
- The borderline exploitive charitable efforts in the "God's Plan" video...
- He puts women on a pedestal.
Mainstream media could not ask for a more PC artist. What can one say, the guy is very likable. The best part about all of this is New Orleans bounce queen Big Freedia is featured on the single with some bounce music to add. This is sort of a big deal for a male Hip-Hop mainstream artist. The song also features an all-star cast of recognizable women:
- - Misty Copeland
- Olivia Wilde
- Issa Rae
- Rashida Jones
- Jourdan Dunn
- Tracee Ellis Ross
- Tiffany Haddish
- Yara Shahidi
- Zoey Saldana
- Elizabeth Lejonhjarta
- Victoria Lejonhjarta
- Letitia Wright
- Bria Vinaite
- Emma Roberts
- Michelle Rodriguez
- Syd
