My Turning Point With Nicki Minaj
Yesterday marked the "return" of one Nicki Minaj. She returned with two new singles and an interview. The interview was the shining moment.
Now, artistically, I always liked Nicki Minaj but based on her personality, ehhhhhh. I always felt she was too cocky, had a sense of entitlement and just never displayed an ounce of humility but you know what, after listening to her Zane Lowe interview I had a change of heart.
The transparency, oh the transparency of it all. This is what I always wanted to see from her instead of this "never let them see me sweat" attitude. The way she opened up about the "MotorSport" situation was honest. Whether you think she was whining and wanting people to kiss her ass, the truth of the matter is, Nicki Minaj is the most successful female rapper on a mainstream level.
Love her or hate her, her numbers equate to those of a Pop star. As a close friend said, "If it was not for Nicki ten years ago there would be no Cardi." A huge part of Cardi's existence is her personality and talent but a large part of her success is fueled by people wanting her to dethrone Nicki Minaj: facts.
I also read comments of people speaking of the calculation and timing of the interview and yes I believe that but I do believe her transparency was "No Fraud," pun intended. Oh, and Quavo, what a mess... That's a lesson in knowing not to confuse industry peers with friends.
As far as the singles, they were ok. "Barbie Tingz" is a cool track but "Chun-Li" is the real bop of the two, in my opinion. They are mediocre, far from her best but then again her best to me, to this day, is her "Monster" verse.
Look, I am not a new stan of Nicki Minaj but I do not believe she is the bitch she is painted to be. If anything I believe she uses it as a shield to protect her self.
