Seventeen More Songs That Made My Summer '17
Listen, I love music. I am a laptop with no battery and music is the cord to the power outlet, seriously speaking. You know seventeen songs were not enough for me so here are another seventeen to continue the rhythm in your bodies.
1. Calper "Crossroads" featuring Mark Asari
This is a cover of the Tracy Chapman classic. This is an official cover release that I just simply love, the unfortunate part is that it was pulled from streaming and sale sites. Thank you Youtube...
2. HAIM "Found It In Silence"
There is not much that I have to say about this song except that I love the message and the dramatic tone of it all.
3. Sam Feldt x Lucas & Steve "Summer On You" featuring Wulf
I love a good steel drum and Sam Feldt makes some great songs. Like it's title, this is another song that defines summer.
4. DJDS "Trees On Fire" featuring Amber Mark & Marco McKinnis
Listen to this song with a pair of high quality headphones. The bass in the opening is gulping and the old school beat in the chorus makes you bounce.
5. Lil Yachty "Better" featuring Stefflon Don
Let me tell you a little something about Lil Yachty; I like the guy's music. I mean to the point where I go on Youtube and play the loop of his little jingle that he made for Sprite soda. Anyway, this is probably my favorite song from his latest album with its "tropical" beat and tempo.
6. YG "Pop It, Shake It"
From the moment I heard this song I was ready to take it somewhere to a dancefloor. There is music for every sort of occasion and this one is for shakin' your ass.
7. Future "Draco"
Hey, say what you want about Future but his instrumentals are incredible. I was addicted to this song!
8. Nick Jonas "Remember I Told You (Frank Walker Remix)" featuring Anne-Marie and Mike Posner
I was not much of a fan of the original but the wonders a good remix can do to a song.
9. P!nk "What About Us"
To be honest, I have not listened to this single that much as it's not the best but at the same time I missed P!nk. I am awaiting the new album...
10. Rita Ora "Your Song"
The queen of mediocre, in a good way, released this melodic bop of a song for the summer. This keeps in tradition with other Rita Ora songs; addictive flash in the pan jams. Okay, so I still enjoy her songs after time passes i.e. "I Will Never Let You Down."
11. SZA "Love Galore"
Come on now, let's sing it, "I said I need a looooove, luuhooovve, luhhhh, luhuhuhuhv." Man, I am so glad SZA solidified herself with this album.
12. Kelela "LMK"
I have been hearing about Kelela for quite some time but this was the song that caught my attention and made me go back and listen to everything else. This is a reminder of how great the 90's R&B sound was.
13. Chris Brown "Party" featuring Usher & Gucci Mane
Like with most Chris Brown singles, I will listen for the first time and not be moved. Unknowingly, I will then hear it in a public place of entertainment and instantly be won over as if I never heard it before. "Party" is one of these songs.
14. Mr. Easy "Bashment Gal"
Love, love, love this song. There is not much else to be said.
15. Bunji Garlin "Chicken and Dumplin'" featuring Kubiyashi & Walshy Fire
This riddim set my brain on fire. The first time I heard this I freaked out for a bit. I literally played this song 50 times on that Sunday I first head it.
16. Hypasounds "Get Up Move (Bubble)"
This is another song I first heard around Trinidad Carnival time. This is a serious tune!
17. Cardi B "Bodak Yellow"
Eh em *clears throat* Now, this list was not in any numerical order but trust me when I say I saved the best for last, my best. Cardi flickin' B ladies and gentleman went and ignited my entire summer with "Bodak Yellow." I have been a fan of the New York-native for some time now. From the first time I heard this song, around the BET awards back in June, I was hooked. I am so happy that she is being recognized on a mainstream level. I somewhat lose my mind whenever this song plays: a natural nutcase. My prayer for her is that she is able to continue this momentum and not be a one-hit-wonder. Keep being you, lady!
